Main Functions

  • Issuance of health certificate for export of seafood products;
  • To carry out chemical and microbiological analysis for local and export of seafood products such as shrimp and prawn crackers;

  • To detect pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella, S. aureus, E. coli, V. cholera) or indicator organisms of faecal pollution (faecal coliforms, or other types of general contamination or poor handling practices (coliform bacteria, total viable count) in seafood products fit for consumption;

  • Carry out analysis of samples from monthly plant inspection of commercial processor’s hygiene of premises for HACCP requirement;

  • Microbiological tests of shrimp used to check that the microbiological status is satisfactory before export includes standard micro tests such as :-

    • Total Plate Count (TPC);
    • Presumptive Coliform;
    • Total Coliform;
    • Total faecal coliform;
    • Pathogen Identification :-
      • E.Coli;
      • Salmonella;
      • V. cholera.
