Main Functions

  1. Resource Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Evaluate status and the economies of exploitation of fisheries resources :-

    1. Pelagic fisheries resources and tuna and tuna-like species;

    2. Demersal fisheries resources;

    3. Shrimp resources and other crustaceans;

    4. Squid resources and other molluscs;

    5. 803-001-002 : Bekalan dan Pemasangan Peralatan Akustik dan Latihan;

    6. 803-008 : Memajukan Sumber Ikan Laut Dalam :-

      • Construction and deployment of tuna FAD.

  2. Monitoring the level of exploitation of fisheries resources :-

    1. Monitoring and analysis of effectiveness, selectivity and effiency of traditional and commercial fishing gears and the impact on the resources;

    2. Monitoring and analysis of levels of exploitation of resources by the traditional and commercial fisheries :-

      • With respect to the implementation of moratorium;

      • Evaluation of shrimp resources;

      • Evaluation of tugu and andang;

      • Review of 51 mm trawl net cod-end mesh size.

  1. Implementation of collaborative R&D with national and international institution :-

    1. Population genetics of Marine Fishes - UBD [Evaluation of resource well-being];

    2. Evaluation of pelagic fish resources (JTF II) - SEAFDEC : 2002 - 2007 [Identification of quantity and quality of resources].

  2. Development and implementation of technology verification on fishing gears and techniques :-

    1. 803-002 : Pembekalan Line Hauler;

    2. Implementation of training and demonstration on technique and capture technology to fishermen and staffs (in-house).

  3. Supervision of departmental research facilities :-

    1. B05510 : Pemeliharaan Kenderaan Air :-

      1. KP Tenggiri;

      2. Tadungan;

      3. Tangat.

    2. Diving equipments etc.

  4. Training and information dissemination on capture fisheries technologies, gears and techniques :-

    • In-situ training on board :-

      1. Sailing / ship handling;

      2. Fishing gear technology.

    • Seminar / dialogue.
