The
section is responsible for:
- implementing
prerequisite programme for fish processing establishments in
compliance with international requirements,
- implementing
inspection programme and certification of seafood products,
- implementing
biological and chemical verification of seafood products for export,
based on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) System,
- providing
standards/limits and regulations pertaining to the fisheries industry,
- monitoring
water quality as an early warning system to gauge the onset of
deterioration of water quality which may affect the aquaculture
industry. This programme, which involves the monitoring of water
quality along Sg. Brunei and near aquaculture sites, will ensure such
warning is ready to protect the industry,
- safeguarding
the public against red
tide
phenomena through routine samplings of waters and planktons and random
monitoring of marketed fish. This is a continuous monitoring programme
of the department to ensure the health and safety of the public from
the threat of red tide occurrences, and
- water
and fish samplings for fish disease surveillance.
