Visitors Flock to 3-day Fisheries Fest
MUARA, 3 September 2006,
Sunday - The three-day Fisheries Carnival 2006 attracted 17,766 visitors
by yesterday afternoon at the Fish Landing Complex Serasa, Muara.
The revenue from the
fisheries sectors involved in the carnival from Friday until yesterday
afternoon totalled B$ 131,210.10.
These were highlighted by
the Director of Fisheries Department, Dayang Hajah Hasnah binti Ibrahim,
at the closing of the three-day carnival yesterday.
She said the Fisheries
Carnival promoted the fisheries industry and showcased the activities of
local entrepreneurs in the fisheries sectors.
The carnival was also an
opportunity for entrepreneurs in the fisheries and other related
industries to get together to share their experiences and views.
She hoped the activities
held during the three-day carnival satisfied all parties including the
entrepreneurs and visitors.
The carnival was
participated by local entrepreneurs in the capture, seafood processing,
aquaculture and related industries.
The public had a close look
at the exhibits displayed by Fisheries Department, Agriculture
Department, Accreditation Centre, Ministry of Industry and Primary
Resources and other non-government agencies such as Brunei Shell
Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd, financial institutions and several schools
involved in the Young Scientist Badge Award Scheme Fisheries Project
2006.
Competition winners in
sideline activities held in conjunction with the carnival received their
prizes in the form of electrical goods.
The chief guest presented
certificates to carnival entrepreneurs.
Fifty-one companies from
government and non-government agencies joined the carnival.
The chief guest presented
the best award in the Fisheries Capture Sector category, and Radims
Fisheries Trading Co was adjudged as the best entrepreneur.
In the Aquaculture Sector
category, the best award went to Tuah Maju Multifoods Sdn. Bhd. The best
entrepreneur award in the Food Processing Sector went to Seri Pekatan
Sdn. Bhd and the best entrepreneur award went to Kuraman Airland.
Also present were the
Deputy Director of Fisheries Department, Awang Haji Abdul Halidi bin
Mohd. Salleh and wife Dayang Hajah Mastura bte Haji Abd. Karim and the
husband of the Fisheries Department Director, Awang Haji Jamil bin Dato
Seri Setia Haji Abd Hamid. They also presented prizes to the winners in
various competitions.
