Participation of one officer from the Department of Fisheries, together with a representative from the Department of Scientific Services in the ‘Workshop for Technical Input on Laboratory Testing Methods to the Inspection Guidelines for Imported Aquaculture Fish and Fishery Products’, held in Singapore from 17–21 August 2026.
The five-day workshop organized by Marine Fisheries Research Department (MFRD), through ASEAN-JICA Food Value Chain Development Project, brought together representatives from ASEAN Member States to strengthen technical understanding and laboratory capabilities in food safety testing, while promoting practical learning, knowledge sharing, and regional networking. The workshop covered general principles for laboratory testing method, as well as considerations for food safety testing of fish and fishery products. The technical inputs and knowledge gained through the workshop helps to contribute to and complements continued development of the Inspection Guidelines.
The Department remains committed to strengthening regional collaboration through the sharing of inputs, experiences, and expertise in support of the development of the guidelines. Through continued consultation, knowledge sharing, and collective efforts, harmonised regional approaches can contribute to the promotion of best practices in ensuring the safety and quality of aquaculture fish and fishery products, while facilitating trade across the region.
